Epic Mountain Biking Weekend in Vail, Colorado

For those who believe two wheels are the best way to explore the mountains, Vail is your dream playground. This mountain biking weekend itinerary combines high-alpine adventures with laid-back riverside moments, epic food stops, and enough singletrack to keep your legs working all weekend. Before diving into your trip planning, take a look at my month-by-month guide for a detailed breakdown of what weather to expect during your visit to the Colorado Rockies. It’ll help you time your adventure just right!

Friday: Dinner & a Village Stroll

Kick things off with an early dinner at El Segundo in Vail Village, home to the best margarita in the valley and a riverside patio that’s hard to beat. After dinner, take a casual stroll through the Village, browse local shops, and enjoy the fresh mountain air as you ease into the weekend.

Saturday: Ride Vail Mountain’s Best Trails

Morning: The Grand Traverse

Start strong with a ride on the Grand Traverse, offering sweeping views from the top of Vail Mountain. Make it easy with a Bike Haul Pass—available for single days or as part of your Epic Pass—to access the top via the Eagle Bahn Gondola in Lionshead Village. From there, you’ll cruise scenic singletrack across alpine ridgelines without the grind all the way across the mountain and then down to Vail Village.

Lunch Break

Refuel at Almresi in Vail Village—a shaded deck and German beers will make you feel like you’re in the Alps. For something quick and delicious, grab a Detroit style, deep-dish slice from Alpine Pizza in Lionshead and head straight back to the lift.

Afternoon: Downhill Riding

Spend your afternoon exploring Vail’s downhill trail system. There’s something for every level—fast and flowy trails, technical lines, and everything in between. Be sure to check current trail conditions before heading up.

Après Ride

Post-ride, swing into Lionshead Liquor for a cold beer to go. Walk down past the Eagle Bahn Gondola and follow the path under the bridge to the river and dip your feet in—arguably the most refreshing way to end a high-mileage day.

Dinner & Drinks

Clean up and choose your dinner vibe: head to Fattoria in Edwards for homemade Italian, with ingredients sourced seasonally from their garden or stay close with a table at Mountain Standard in Vail Village overlooking the Gore Creek—just don’t skip the pimento cheese.

Sunday: Local Rides & Laid-Back Vibes

Breakfast Before Biking

Ease into your final day in Vail with a great breakfast. Whether you’re near the Village or further west, you’ve got plenty of options: Loaded Joe’s (Vail & Avon locations) for strong coffee, Village Bagel in Edwards for the valley’s best bagel sandwiches, or Sunrise Café in Minturn for a cozy small-town spot.
